Fresh Air, Friendship and Fabric
Just about an hour from my home is a string of small towns in Holmes County called, Sugar Creek, Berlin, Charm and Walnut Creek. There are more, these are just a few. They are such a gem. Among the rolling hills and open landscapes where you can see Amish homesteads for miles and winding roads with Amish buggy's there are shops and restaurants, hotels, rental cabins and cottages, thrift shops like crazy and my personal favorite, quilt shops. It's my favorite place to visit. Its my favorite getaway to stay for anniversary's or girls trips or just for an afternoon. There is so much to do and see I haven't even done half of it. Life is a little slower there, perhaps not on a Saturday but I like to go during the week. The whole area shuts down on Sunday and you can watch all the buggy's go to their church service or to picnics in the Spring and Summer. In every season it's beautiful and I always come home feeling refreshed and ready to bring some of that simple relaxed life to my home. I love that most every store is playing hymns or Christian music it is just a beautiful thing and people are friendly! The way things used to be.
I went with a good friend on Thursday. We took backroads there as we drank our ice coffees and we visited a few fabric shops. As a quilter it is important to keep up your fabric stash and while I probably have bought a little too much lately I am excited and ready to begin some new projects that I have in mind. For some I collect fabrics as I go and when I have enough I find a pattern that I like and begin.

I wish I had taken more pictures that day but I kept forgetting as I was living in the moment and just enjoying good conversation and friendship. How about you? Do you live near Amish Country or perhaps another historic area? I'd love to hear about it.
God is so good! All the time :)
Until next time...Have a good weekend!
Joyce, this sounds like a wonderful day outing! So peaceful and quaint. We do not have any Amish communities here in the Beaumont area. What we have is a rich history of the first oil boom. We have a place called Boomtown and it is a place that represents the first gusher, Spindletop, and the town that was present back in the day. It's a pretty cool place to take the kids on a field trip. They have an old printing press, mercantile, foundry, homes, post office, jail, etc. The kids love to see what everything looked like back then.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so much fun to buy fabric? I just want to collect all of it :)
