The Great Basement Cleanout

It has begun…this week we began our biggest chore to date.  the great basement cleanout.  It’s been on our list for a number of years now.  It has been that catch all place in our home for the things we hate to throw away but needed to be thrown out years ago.  Among the tattered old household things and junk are little treasures that we pause and look through.  I have found pictures of me with my great grandmother, pictures of me and my dad I thought had gotten thrown away by mistake.  I’ve walked around with a lump in my throat for a few days.  Then there are books and drawings and lessons from our homeschooling days that are long forgotten. Those days, the happiest of my life when time seemed to go slow and life seemed simple because that’s the way I like it

All of this meloncholy has made me ponder…what would I say to my younger self.

1.  Throw more stuff away!  Chances are you will never use those old curtains or towels or dishes again. lol

2.  Those days, those good days and those hard days during the school year.  Savor them.  Once day you will look back and see remnants from art projects or writing lessons and you will long to be right there at that dining room table going over those lessons again and again.

3.  I miss her when she was this small.  Why does it go so fast. Maybe if she has a daughter some day she will to wear that mickey mouse jacket or Winnie the Pooh dress. (Sigh)

4. What was I thinking with THAT color scheme.

5.  Take. Your. Time and open your eyes and your ears and be thankful for them.  Enjoy slow easy days  bake more cookies, have more tea parties.  Make a quilt out of your kids favorite clothes.  Journal.  Oh how I wish that I journaled those days.

Just a few thoughts for today as the memories float around in our heads

On a lighter note.  We celebrated our Valentine’s Day yesterday…Friday.  We can do that now because my hubby is retired.  We went to lunch at Cheesecake Factory and to the move to see…Solo Mia.  It was the best movie I have seen in years and we so enjoyed it!  Perfect date movie.  We finished our evening with our cheesecake that we brought home.  It was fun to get out on a sunny day and feel a little warmer air, finally.  It truly was a lovely day with my valentine.

Much more to catch up on next week…

Happy Valentines Day
